Universal Genève is a Swiss watch company. Since 1894 Universal Genève has been manufacturing complete watches with in-house movements. Universal have produced many notable and important mechanical watches. After a difficult period in the 1980s and 1990's Universal recently released a series of watches and a new micro-rotor caliber which revisited the company's earlier success. Arguably the most famous Universal watch is the Polerouter. Designed by Gérald Genta, this was originally produced as the Polerouter in 1958 appearing with a Cal 138SS Bumper movement. The next year it was replaced with the revolutionary Cal 215 micro-rotor movement which with minor changes and a name change to Polerouter was produced until late 1969. The Golden Shadow and White shadow first produced 1965 were the worlds thinnest automatic watches with a movement thickness of only 2.3mm. This record was held until 1978.This was also designed by Gerald Genta this watch was available in yellow and white gold as the Golden Shadow, and in stainless steel as the White shadow. Both watches contained the calibre 2-66 mico rotor movement.
