This Vacheron Constantin Automatic from the 1950s is a fascinating testament to a particularly interesting period in the development of self-winding wristwatches. Before modern automatic movements with full-rotor winding systems became the industry standard, some of the finest Swiss manufactures employed sophisticated "bumper" automatic movements, in which the oscillating weight travelled through a limited arc inside the movement.
In this example, the rare automatic mechanism is housed within an understated 34 mm stainless steel case and paired with a beautiful original two-tone dial. The result is an elegant and highly distinctive configuration that perfectly captures the refined character of high-end Swiss watchmaking during the 1950s.
The plexiglass crystal and brown leather strap complete the watch's classic vintage aesthetic. Preserved in fantastic condition, this rare Vacheron Constantin combines refined design, originality and a mechanically fascinating automatic winding system of significant historical interest.
